Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions?

We’ve got the answers!

  • Do I need to make a reservation?

Yes, reservations are essential to help us manage group sizes and provide the best possible experience. You’ll receive an instant confirmation—please check it carefully for meeting point details.

  • I made a reservation but didn’t receive a confirmation. What should I do?

First, double-check that your email was entered correctly and look in your spam/junk folder. If it’s still missing, contact us by email.

  • Do I need to print the confirmation?

No need to print anything! Once you’ve received your confirmation, your name goes straight on our tour leader’s list.

  • Is there a cancellation policy?

There are no fees to book or cancel. We only ask that you inform us by email if you can’t attend, so we can offer your spot to someone else.

  • How long is the Athens Free Tour walk?

The walk lasts around 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours. Tour routes may vary depending on the weather, group pace, city events, and group interest.

  • Where does the tour end?

We finish in the Plaka area—very close to the starting point and within easy walking distance of the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, and Syntagma Square. Your tour leader can offer lunch/dinner tips and help with directions.

  • Do we enter the Acropolis or the Acropolis Museum during the tour?

No. Athens Free Tour offers a free introduction to the city center. We do not enter any archaeological sites or museums. If you're on a tight schedule, plan extra time to visit key sites after the tour.

  • Where can we buy “skip-the-line” Acropolis tickets?

You can purchase combination or single tickets for all main sites through the official Greek Ministry of Culture & Sports website. If you prefer a guided experience inside the Acropolis or museums, feel free to ask us for our local recommendations during the tour or by email.

  • Do we see the Changing of the Guards ceremony?

We always aim to include the Evzones at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma. However, the exact itinerary depends on group pace, weather, and city events. The total walking distance is around 4–6 kilometers with short walks between stops.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a bottle of water, some cash for a coffee break, wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.

  • Is the walk tiring?

The route is designed to be accessible for all ages and fitness levels. We walk in short segments (usually 5 minutes between stops), stay mostly in shaded areas, and take a coffee/toilet break halfway through.

  • How many people are in each group?

We aim to keep our groups to an average of 20 people, whenever possible. This allows for a more personal and interactive experience.

  • Is Athens a safe city?

Yes, Athens is very safe with low rates of serious crime. However, like many major European cities, pickpocketing can occur—please stay alert and protect your belongings.

  • Can I bring my pet on the tour?
Unfortunately, we can no longer allow pets on the tour, regardless of how well-behaved they may be.
  • Can we join Athens Free Tour with a baby stroller or wheelchair?
Yes, everyone is welcome! Please note that parts of the route include uneven ground and a few steps toward the end. Your tour leader will do their best to adjust the pace and path to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.
